H.M. Cragg Co. provides quality and comprehensive UPS battery tests
and inspections. The following is a list of Frequently Asked Questions
to help determine your inspection needs:
Q: Why should I have my UPS batteries inspected?
A: A UPS battery, like any other battery, can slowly lose its charge
over time. A bad battery can prevent the UPS from providing the minimum
required backup power in the event of a power failure. With regularly
scheduled inspections, we can identify a potentially bad battery before
the equipment actually fails.
Q: How often should my batteries be inspected?
A: Typically, inspections are done quarterly, semiannually, or annually
depending on the type and sensitivity of the equipment you are protecting.
Q: Do you offer inspection contracts?
A: Absolutely! Our contracts are geared to your needs. With a contract,
you don't have to worry about when the next inspection is due. We will
call you before the next inspection is due to schedule a visit by a
certified, experienced technician according to your time frame.
Q: What does an inspection include?
A:• For flooded, or wet, cells we will measure and record individual
cell voltage, total string voltage, charger output voltage, specific
gravity, electrolyte temperature, and intercell/unit connector and battery
cable contact resistances. We will water cells as needed.
• For VRLA (valve-regulated lead acid) or dry cells we will measure voltage
and conductance.
• For wet or dry, we will also visually inspect all equipment, review customer
maintenance records, and perform safety checks of all battery room equipment.
You will receive a detailed report for each battery string along with
recommendations for repair or replacements if needed.
