Many of you are likely experiencing product delays with multiple vendors/suppliers as we work our way into the second quarter of 2021. There are several forces at work, all converging to make life a little more difficult for us these days.

  • Covid continues to cause worker shortages at docks in California and around the country, and at domestic freight carriers.
  • Those worker shortages, along with increased demand for imported goods, is causing high numbers of container ships to wait off the coasts to unload product. We have more ships than we have docks and workers. You may have seen images recently of dozens of ships anchored off the coast of the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach waiting their turn to dock. This has been going on for months now.
  • The demand for computer chips is growing while supply is unable to keep pace causing component shortages for multiple industries, including ours.

For these reasons we want to let you know that HM Cragg has placed a large out-of-cycle stock order with Eaton two weeks ago to try to help buffer this issue. We have made this investment to try to get ahead of any potential shortages, if we can. Anything you can do to signal to us that you have an order pending will help us work together to mitigate delays. Please contact your Sales Manager to plan for any future product needs you may have. We are willing to order stock early to meet you and your customer’s needs.
